Book

This LONG OUT OF PRINT Antiquarian auction catalogue lists and describes 51 Lots, ALL of which appear to be illustrated in sparkling color, of exceptionally exquisite Vintage Jewelry from the Sybil Harrington Collection !

"Growing up in Amarillo, Texas, she particularly loved dance and music. This lifelong interest in music was realized through her support of New York's Metropolitan Opera, where she became the largest individual donor in the company's history... In 1987, the Met honored her outstamding generosity by renaming the main hall the Sybil H. Harrington Auditorium.

Treasures include -- rings, ear clips/pendants, brooches, necklaces, bracelets -- including invisibly-set pieces by Van Cleef + Arpels, and a ring and brooch containing emeralds from the diadem of Marie-Louise, Napoleon's second wife -- among OTHERS!

"During the 1930s, designers at Van Cleef + Arpels created innovative jewelry , both in design and craftsmanship. Perhaps the most ingenious style of jewelry they developed during this period made use of the serti invisible (invisible setting) technique, whereby stones were set with no visible supporting mounting. To achieve this magic-like appearance, each stone was given four additional facets and, then, slid into special slots or grooves."

Periods include [from the Glossary] -- Antique (over 100 years old), Art Nouveau (1895 - 1910), Belle Epoque (1895 - 1914), Art Deco (1915 - 1935), and Retro (1940s).

WOWSERS! Aside from the excellent photographs and descriptions, the Biographies of the three main makers of the pieces in her collection as well as some historical details of some of the items add to the wealth of useful information contained in this treasure trove of fine jewellery. Several photos of Mrs. Harrington are also present. If you have begun a personal computer interactive relational database of makers / styles / models, you will certainly find many new items to add to it in this really kewl tome.

Biographies [Cartier, Van Cleef + Arpels, Webb], Ring Size Chart [American - French/Japanese - English - Metric], Diamond Color Grading, Diamond Clarity Grading.
