This exceptional Antiquarian LONG OUT OF PRINT auction catalogThis exceptional Antiquarian LONG OUT OF PRINT auction catalog lists and describes 271 Lots, ALL of which appear to be illustrated, of really vintage classical Movie Posters and Lobby Cards for American and Foreign Films !

"Prior to the advent of televison, posters were the primary method of movie advertising. Fueled by stiff competetion for patrons' hard-earned nickels, posters displayed exaggerated virtues and situations sometimes more interesting than the film itself. The movie poster proved so successful a publicity tool that the studio advertising departments aggressively promoted their films by creating spectacular and sensational myths on paper, These posters promised a temporary diversion from reality, an hour or so of glamour, romance, escape and excitement. And thus began America's love affair with the movies, perhaps leading to out current passion for coveting and preserving small bits of its history through poster collecting."

Movies represented -- those in the header and -- The Beggar Prince, Wings, Beau Geste, Gone With The Wind, The Circus, Frankenstein, The Jazz Singer, and MANY others!

WOWSERS! Now here is a real gem! Advertising (one page) art for some of the most memorable flicks made during the last century -- in just about every imaginable genre, American and international -- western, horror, comedy, animal performers, space fantasy, film noir, etc.

Historical notes on movie posters and advertising add very informative details to this marvelous book -- as well as notes on some of the greatest stars, directors and characters of the silver screen -- Warner Oland (Dr. Fu Machu), Disney cartoons, Sherlock Holmes, Tom Mix and Hoot Gibson, Lon Chaney, and MANY more!
