Although I have never been to these auctions, when I was lucky enough to find their amply illustrated, frequently monographic catalogues, I added them, for well over 20 years, to my personal research library, and was always absolutely thrilled to discover something dealing with my many eclectic interests. They are really UNIQUE identification guides with hard-to-find data, usually containing info about the size, media, dates, styles, signatures, estimated values, and often significant details on the artist or maker. These catalogues are extremely difficult to find because long time knowledgeable collectors around the world had already acquired them through very expensive subscription when they first appeared!

They are absolutely indispensable references, whether you happen to be an appraiser, an investor, a collector, a student working on a term paper or thesis, a teacher who wants more diversity in presenting concepts with concrete examples -- maybe you want to try to identify what Grandma has stashed in the attic, or that lovely item you discovered at a yard sale or local country auction -- perhaps you have a shop, might call yourself an expert, researching the different styles of certain things/makers -- hey, even just for a world-traveled packrat like I was in my prime, they always offer exciting new vistas of beauty, creativity and information that I could find nowhere else.

If you clicked on this item, I assume that you collect these really kewl decoys, which now seem to line shelves in display cases rather than float on the waters of a favorite duck hunting location. They are a tribute to the handicraft of many carvers from around the country, and now take their place as a form of folk art that has become a very respectible hunting ground for collectors -- and this reference will help you to complete your personal computer database of these really exceptional hand-crafted birds!

Extensive Index of Makers.
